Commencement Ceremonies

The University has three commencement ceremonies per year:
  • Spring Semester (May)
  • Summer (August)
  • Fall Semester (December)

Your academic dean’s office is in charge of your ceremony.  Direct all questions concerning the ceremony to your academic dean's office:

You MUST contact your academic dean’s office in order to participate in the ceremony.

Cap and gown are sold at the UTA Bookstore (817) 272-2785. Announcements are sold at www.jostens.com. A Grad Finale information session is held every semester at the UTA Bookstore. Representatives from other UTA Departments will be available during these information sessions to answer questions related to graduation.  Grad Finales are held during March for Spring commencements, during June for Summer commencements and during October for Fall commencements.  Please check with the UTA Bookstore for exact dates and times of each Grad Finale

Some additional information:

  • The Saturday date of each commencement weekend is always the official graduation date for that commencement's graduation term.  This Saturday date will be the graduation date that graduates see on their diplomas, even if their commencement ceremonies are held on the Thursday, Friday, Sunday or Monday of commencement weekend.
  • Students are normally allowed to participate in a graduation ceremony if they apply for graduation by the deadline and if they have completed all of the requirements for their degree program or will have completed all of those requirements by the end of the graduation term.  A student’s academic college does have the right, however, to prohibit a student from attending their commencement ceremony, based on the criteria they use for determining who is and is not eligible to "walk" in their commencement ceremony each term.
  • The UT Arlington commencement ceremony is a recognition ceremony only, since a student's final grades are not reported until after commencement weekend.  Only after a student's final semester grades have posted and their degree progress reviewed by their academic program can a graduation decision be made. This determination decision is normally made for resident students within 3 weeks of the final semester's grade posting.  It can be extended to 6 weeks, however, when the student's final degree plan requirements are being transferred in from another institution.
